Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers about what TradeY does today — and what it doesn't.

General

A tool for writing your own crypto trading strategies — in a readable rule language or in TypeScript — then backtesting and paper-trading them. It is a Windows desktop app for authoring and testing, plus a command-line tool that runs your strategies on your own machine. TradeY Beta 0 is a free beta and paper trading only. TradeY is not a fund, not a broker, and never takes custody of your money.

Download the desktop app and open it. There is no account to create and nothing to sign up for — TradeY stores your strategies locally. Start from one of the 20 prebuilt strategies, or write your own, then backtest it and paper-trade it.

Some, but not much. Strategies are written in a readable rule language — when rsi above 70 then sell — with syntax highlighting and validation as you type. If you want more control, there is a full TypeScript editor with autocomplete and inline linting. There is no drag-and-drop block editor.

No. Beta 0 has no accounts at all — no sign-in, no web login, and TradeY never asks you for a password.

Strategies & execution

On your machine, in a process you start and stop yourself. TradeY runs no servers that trade on your behalf and exposes no API that could. In Beta 0 every run is a paper run, and it only runs while your machine is on and the process is running — if you close it, it stops.

As many as your machine handles. Because they run locally and never contact our servers, there is no limit for us to apply and no count for us to keep.

For trading, none in Beta 0: bots paper-trade on Binance's public market data, with simulated fills on your computer. The CLI can also download historical candles from Binance, and backtesting works with candle data from any source. Live trading on a real exchange is not part of this beta.

No. Beta 0 is paper trading only and cannot place a real order on any exchange — the ability is switched off when the app is built, not by a setting you could change. Start a bot that is bound to a real exchange and it refuses to start and points you at paper-trading mode instead.

Security

Beta 0 never asks for exchange keys. Paper trading uses public market data, so there is nothing to connect, and the key commands say "coming soon". When live trading returns in a later version, keys will stay on your machine, encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM under a key derived from a passphrase only you know, and will never be sent to TradeY — there is no server for them to go to.

No. TradeY never holds funds, Beta 0 cannot place orders at all, and it never asks for exchange keys. If you create exchange keys for a later version, give them read and trade permissions only, never withdrawal — see the key set-up guide.

Losing money. Strategies can and do lose capital, past performance does not predict future returns, and a Risk Score describes historical behaviour rather than promising anything. Exchange outages, exchange insolvency and your own configuration mistakes are also outside what any tool can prevent. The security page spells this out in detail.

Cost

Nothing. Beta 0 is free: there is no payment page, no subscription and no card on file. See pricing for what might eventually carry a price and why.

Not during Beta 0, and no prices are announced. If a paid plan ever exists it will be for something we host and can measure, such as a planned marketplace for publishing strategies. TradeY does not accept deposits or manage anyone's money.

There is nothing to refund — TradeY does not take payments. If that changes, refund terms will be published alongside the prices, before anyone is charged.
